Teaser Trailer: A24’s “The Backrooms” Movie

Following yesterday’s poster, A24 has unveiled the teaser trailer for its film adaptation of the internet horror phenomenon “The Backrooms”.

Kane Parsons, the 19-year-old filmmaker who created the original “The Backrooms (Found Footage)” viral video, directs the projects, making him the youngest director in A24 history. Parsons will direct from a script by Roberto Patino.

The original urban legend and ‘creepypasta’ short film is set in the 1990s and sees a young filmmaker fall into another dimension where he wanders through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space – one that may be home to otherworldly beings.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (“The Life of Chuck,” “Venom: The Last Dance”) and Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the World,” “A Different Man”) will lead the cast of the film adaptation, which swaps out the young filmmaker for a therapist.

Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell are also confirmed to be in the cast.

James Wan, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Chris Ferguson, and Michael Clear are producing. “The Backrooms” opens in cinemas on May 29th 2026.
