“The Backrooms” Film Poster, Trailer Tomorrow

A24 has unveiled the first official poster for its film adaptation of the internet horror phenomenon “The Backrooms”.

The one-sheet comes ahead of the first trailer for the film, which is expected to debut online tomorrow – around three months ahead of its late May release. To date, this poster marks the sole official publicity image released from the film thus far.

Kane Parsons, the 19-year-old filmmaker who created the original “The Backrooms (Found Footage)” viral video, directs the projects, making him the youngest director in A24 history. Parsons will direct from a script by Roberto Patino.

The original urban legend and ‘creepypasta’ short film is set in the 1990s and sees a young filmmaker fall into another dimension where he wanders through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space – one that may be home to otherworldly beings.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (“The Life of Chuck,” “Venom: The Last Dance”) and Renate Reinsve (“The Worst Person in the World,” “A Different Man”) will lead the cast of the film adaptation, which swaps out the young filmmaker for a therapist.

James Wan, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Chris Ferguson, and Michael Clear are producing. “The Backrooms” opens in cinemas on May 29th 2026.
