“Battle,” “Sinners,” “Hamnet” Rule BAFTA Noms
Much like with the Oscar nominations the other day, Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” dominated the line-up, the pair of films easily coming in ahead of everyone else with 14 and 13 nominations respectively.
Also faring well were Chloe Zhao’s “Hamnet” and Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,” both titles racking up 11 nominations each. “Frankenstein” and “Sentimental Value” scored eight nominations each, “Bugonia” and “I Swear” landed five each, while “The Ballad of Wallis Island” and “Pillion” took three each.
While the Oscars entirely shut out “Wicked: For Good,” the sequel took in nods for costume, make-up and hair. Paul Mescal, who missed out on an Oscar nomination, did land a BAFTA nom. Sadly, Guillermo del Toro failed to land a BAFTA or Oscar nomination for his “Frankenstein” work.
Welcome surprises include Chase Infiniti (“One Battle After Another”) and Odessa A’zion (“Marty Supreme”) scoring nominations. “Sentimental Value” got a lot of love, but not many other foreign titles did. Here are the nominees:
