Netflix Sets Live-Action “Gundam” Cast

Netflix has unveiled the full cast for its upcoming live-action “Gundam” movie from Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Along with the previously announced Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, there’s also Jason Isaacs, Jackson White, Michael Mando, Nonso Anozie, Javon Walton, Gemma Chua-Tran, Shioli Kutsuna, Ida Brooke and Oleksandr Rudynskyi.

Jason Clarke was previously reportedly joining the project a few months ago, but his name doesn’t appear on the final list.

“Sweet Tooth” showrunner Jim Mickle is directing and writing the project, and it’s not clear if this will tell an original story or be an adaptation of one of the prior series in the franchise.

Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the original series began in 1979 and is set in the Universal Century, an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of a growing population on Earth.

Those living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence, with battles fought by piloting robots known as mobile suits.

The franchise is considered one of the most important and famous in all anime and spans 83 animated series and movies. Even today, decades after its creation, the toys generate over $600 million annually.
